10U Small Group 2023
Goals for Group
Skating
Focus Areas
Using both edges on tight turns
Confidence on all edges not just some.
Quicker out of turns
Body Control
Avoid being a bobber...
Head up and chest up.
Shooting
Focus Areas
Shooting the puck with top hand away from body.
Confidence on all edges not just some.
Quicker out of turns
Quickness- Starting/stopping in one motion.
As they improve their edges they will get quicker in small areas. First stride can use some more explosiveness.
Maximizing every stride- they need to get to the "spot" quicker- no coasting coming up to a turn or move.
COnfidence
Focus Areas
Head up puck control- stick handling confidence.
Confidence in edges, especially in the corners/tight turns. Not only win the race to the puck but come out with it under control.
Confidence = faster and better decision making.
Protecting the puck from opponents
Skating
This first video we are working on a tight turn using both of our edges.
Early on almost every player dragged their toe when making a tight turn. We have seen signifigant improvement in this.
This second video we are working on keeping the puck forehand only.
The purpose of this drill is to trust our edges to help us become more confident with the puck on our stick.
Shooting
Hand Position
Notice the top hand for Makar. If we get that top hand extended and pull back on the top hand at the same time as snaping the bottom hand your shot will become even more powerful.
Grady week 1 had his top hand tight to his body but has made signifigant improvement on this!
This will allow him to get more flex on his stick, more power and more consistent rotation on the puck.
Same thing with Max... early on Max basically shot with his hand on his hip now he is making the transition to getting his hands out more consistently and is gaining signifigant power as a result! (He knocked the target down here by the way)
Greyson has really improved on getting his body fully into the shot. With his hands away from his body he will really start to maximize power and accuracy.
Hayden is getting really close to where we want to be! His hands are in a much better place on most shots.
Thomas- I will update yours next week!
Puck Protection
I will be adding this soon.
